Case study

Julian Miquiabas, Staff Nurse

I started my UK journey as a registered nurse in November 2020 as part of the international nurse recruitment programme.

Prior to that I worked in Emergency department for 13 years in both Dubai and the Philippines. Moreover, I transferred to the UK due the positive feedback from my previous colleagues and the good working environment in the NHS. At first there were loads of trust that were offering different benefits. However, I choose UHCW due the quiet countryside and the brilliant support for new staff.

I was assigned in the AMU for 1 year and 6 months. It was very good learning opportunity for me as it was my first ward experience. The support was overwhelming especially the sisters and the managers. They guided and moulded me in accordance to the trust values. It enabled me to grow and experience a different area in the nursing practice. However, I decided to alter the course of my career by transferring back to ED in April 2022. Currently, I recently got the post as a band 6 charge nurse in ED. I am thankful for the opportunities for career development and the unyielding support for continuous learning.
