Jack recently took up the role as Ward Manager on Victoria Ward at George Eliot Hospital, his journey to this role has showcased the support and opportunity that working in Nursing at the Hospital in Nuneaton offers.
Jack says he has never been the most academic and has therefore had to prove himself along the way and the support and guidance he has been given has helped along his journey.
Jack started his nursing career in 2003 as a modern apprentice, working a few days a week alongside attending college to obtain healthcare NVQ level 2 in care. He worked in many wards around the trust during the apprenticeship. Ultimately achieving a job as a support worker on completion of the course.
Following this he was encouraged to go to university to do nurse training, achieving a diploma and successfully qualifying in 2009, as part of his course he has two placements at George Eliot.
After completing this he got job on Felix Holt ward at the Hospital and and then had experience in A&E before going back to medicine to support with winter pressures, getting valuable experience on high pressures area, ultimately, he obtained a band 6 position on AMU.
His versatility and the amount of opportunity on offer to him also saw him working as a Band 7 on Victoria ward, putting his expertise in supporting winter pressure to the test and worked in the site team for a couple of years during the pandemic, gaining more valuable insight.
A brief stint saw Jack move to another Trust for a couple of years, where he has able to obtain degree before deciding to come back to George Eliot and use the experience and knowledge to care for patients in the region.
Jack said "This place is like a family, with phenomenal support every step of the way, people believe in me and support in me, this Trust is so good for developing people and taking care of you."
"Here they are able to see the talent and nurture it."
