I have been working as a staff nurse in UHCW since 2022.
How have you been supported by the Trust to develop your career?
I have been at UHCW since 2001. Starting as a student and learning from a brilliant team of managers, medics and therapy. If you’re willing to learn, they’re willing to teach and support. Nurturing your interests and developing you to be the next leader.
What do you do in your role that makes a difference?
My role has changed but my clinical skills still support the juniors I work with and my leadership skills hep the next ward leaders. The quality and safety as well as feedback from relatives and patients is what I utilised to improve services but also empower realistic goals and expectations.
What do you enjoy about working at the Trust?
I love the team I work with, they’re family!
What is your proudest moment while working at the Trust?
Gaining knowledge over the years has empowered me to work with others and develop pathways. These pathways are in place now and standard work. I am also proud that I am a matron, something that was never on my radar when I commenced my career.
What is your favourite memory about work while working at the Trust?
Throughout covid no one new what was going on from one day to the next but we were each others support network that family at home had no real idea of the emotional toll. From this myself and the other manager devised “Positivity spread kindness not virus” which was huge for our department
Why did you choose to work for UHCW?
I had a fantastic training experience with unbelievable support and guidance - why go anywhere else?
