Chloe Godfrey, Acute Pain Sister

How have you been supported by the trust to develop your career?

My manager and colleagues have supported me and given me the confidence in my career to take on new learning opportunities and build on my knowledge in my speciality. I have been lucky to be able to go back to university to attend courses that have given me new skills to improve my patient care.

What do you do in your role that makes a difference?

In my role as an Acute Pain Sister I review patients daily and suggest changes to analgesia to improve their pain management. Revisiting the patients the following day and seeing an improvement gives me great job satisfaction as they are more comfortable, able to move easier and even be discharged from hospital sooner.

What do you enjoy about working at the trust?

I enjoy the variety of specialities that I see in my daily work and the positive impact my decisions on pain management have on my patients. Every day is different which can make my job exciting as you can learn something new every day. I also enjoy seeing my colleagues each day, I work in a great team who always support one another!

What is your proudest moment while working?

My proudest moment is achieving the role as a pain management specialist nurse and recently becoming a nurse prescriber. I have been a qualified nurse for 8 years and I feel proud to be where I am today.

What is your favourite memory about work while working at the trust?

My favourite memory is representing the Acute Pain Team as the National Acute Pain Symposium. It gave me a great in site into how other trusts manage pain and it also made me proud to see how advanced our team is in delivering pain management in our trust.

Why did you choose to work at UHCW?

I chose to work at UHCW because of the career development opportunities at the trust. Since starting in the trust in 2016 I have gained so much confidence as a nurse and achieved skills I never imagined achieving when I qualified back in 2015!
