Embarking on an apprenticeship is your gateway to a myriad of nursing roles and endless opportunities.

There are many opportunities for apprentices to join the NHS to become a nurse. The three main routes into nursing through the Apprenticeship programme are:

Route 1:

  1. New applicant with or without Functional skills aged 16+ and over (18+ for Mental Health) with no experience.
  2. Enrol on a healthcare related apprenticeship qualification.
  3. Complete the Care Certificate and healthcare training whilst working as an apprentice.
  4. Enrol on a functional skills class if required.
  5. Complete the healthcare related apprenticeship qualification.
  6. Become a Healthcare Assistant.
  7. Apply for the Student Nursing Associate Apprenticeship.
  8. Complete the Student Nursing Associate Apprenticeship.
  9. Work as a Nursing Associate for 12 months.
  10. Apply for the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship.
  11. Work as a Registered Nurse and complete 12-month preceptorship.

Route 2:

  1. New applicant with A levels and Maths and English GCSE’s level 4/ Grade C and over with no experience.
  2. Enrol on a healthcare related apprenticeship qualification.
  3. Complete the Care Certificate and healthcare training whilst working as an apprentice.
  4. Complete the healthcare related apprenticeship qualification.
  5. Become a Healthcare Assistant.
  6. Apply for the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship.
  7. Work as a Registered Nurse and complete 12-month preceptorship.

Route 3.

  1. New applicant with A levels or health related level 3 qualification and Maths and English GCSE’s level 4/ Grade C and over with 6 months experience.
  2. Become a healthcare assistant.
  3. Complete the Care Certificate and healthcare training whilst working as a healthcare assistant.
  4. Apply for the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship.
  5. Work as a Registered Nurse and complete 12-month preceptorship.
