What is Mental Health?

Mental health, often overshadowed by physical health, is just as important for a fulfilling life. It encompasses our emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing, impacting how we think, feel, and act. Just like tending a garden, nurturing our mental wellbeing requires some work.

Good mental health is important because it can support and/or improve our:

  • Ability to take care of self and of others
  • Sense of belonging
  • Ability to think clearly
  • Stable relationships
  • Optimism
  • Self confidence
  • Respect for ourselves and others
  • Sense of wellbeing and contentment
  • Resilience to stress
  • Flexibility
  • Productive behaviour
  • Empathy
  • Spirituality
