Events and Courses

There are a number of events and courses that are available to you when you are on the Living With and Beyond Cancer programme - both pre-treatment and post-treatment.

New to Cancer Treatment and Support events

Anyone newly diagnosed with cancer is invited to attend one of our New to Cancer Treatment and Support Events.

These online events offer advice on nutrition, fatigue, physical activity and emotional wellbeing. You can also find out about who can help with financial and benefits advice and what to expect when you attend for treatment such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or immunotherapy.

The New to Cancer Treatment and Support Events are also a great opportunity to ask questions of the experts.

Hope Programme

The Hope Programme is a free 6-week self-management programme for those with a cancer diagnosis who are living with and beyond cancer. It can help you rediscover your strengths and give you the tools to feel more in controlof your life and more resiliant.

The course has been created by researchers at Coventry University working with people who have had cancer to support their unmet needs. It is offered in collaboration with Macmillan Cancer Support and delivered by trained facilitators with experience of cancer.

The programme offers activities to help to: manage stress; set achievable goals; practice gratitude; identify and appreciate your individual character strengths; incorporate physical activity and healthy eating into your life; manage fatigue better; practice mindfulness; and offer ideas to help you communicate with others about cancer.

The course is a mixture of audio and video materials, interactive activities and social networking via a dedicated HOPE platform where participants can safely share email and messages. Participants are supported throughout by trained facilitators.

The online course can be accessed from a PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone. You will have access to the course 24/7. It takes about 2 hours to go through the materials each week, but you can do this at your own pace and at a time that suits. An optional weekly online cafe is usually offered where participants can meet up with the facilitators to discuss their experience of the previous week as well as discuss any questions, ideas or concerns.

Hope Courses run through out the year. Please contact the local information centre for the date and location options.
