Your health and care services in Rugby
We want everyone in Rugby to be able to get the right care, in the right place, when they need it. That means services that are high quality, easy to access and designed around the local people and communities.
This page brings together everything you need to know about the health and care services available in Rugby, from GP surgeries and pharmacies to mental health support, social care and hospital services. You’ll also find details about our plans to expand and modernise the Hospital of St Cross, so it can meet the needs of our community now and in the future.
Rugby Health is the Primary Care Network (PCN) for all 12 GP practices in Rugby which includes Beech Tree Medical Practice, Bennfield Surgery, Brookside Surgery, Brownsover Medical Centre, Central Surgery, Clifton Road Surgery, Dunchurch Surgery, Market Quarter Medical Practice, Revel Surgery, Westside Medical Centre, Whitehall Medical Centre and Bilton Green Surgery.
The services that the PCN provides includes:
- GPs working across multiple practices – Extra doctors will help support local surgeries to ensure you can still be seen even when we’re busy.
- Home visiting nurse – A nurse visits people at home if they are unable to get to the surgery.
- Evening and weekend appointments – More appointment times available, including weekday evenings and Saturdays.
- Dietitians – Specialists who help you with stomach and digestion problems and give advice on healthy eating.
- Occupational therapists – To help you stay as independent as possible with everyday tasks at home, work or during leisure activities.
- Clinical pharmacists – Experts in medicines who can review your prescriptions and help you get the best from them.
- Pharmacy technicians – Who can give you advice about medicines and provide extra support for Pharmacists.
- Podiatrists – Specialists who assess and treat foot and lower limb problems.
- Physiotherapists (First Contact) – Experts who can assess and treat muscle, joint and movement problems without a GP referral.
- Mental Health and Wellbeing Team – A team who can talk with you about your mental health and help you find the right support.
- Physician associates – Health professionals who work with doctors and can see and treat many patients themselves.
- GP assistants – Staff who support the GP team with admin tasks and some simple clinical duties.

Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT) provide a wide range of mental health, learning disability, autism and children’s services for people in Rugby.
Services available include:
- Adults and older adults’ mental health services – Personalised support for conditions such as depression, anxiety and dementia, including assessment, treatment and ongoing care.
- Adult learning disability and autism services – Specialist healthcare, therapies and support to help adults live healthy, independent and fulfilling lives.
- Children and young people’s services – Support for mental health, neurodevelopmental needs, learning disabilities and physical health conditions. Teams work closely with families, carers and professionals to help children thrive.

Social care in Rugby is provided by Warwickshire County Council and delivered through a mix of organisations for both children and adults.
Adult Social Care provides support for older people, people with disabilities, long-term illness or mental health issues and their carers.
Services provided include personal care (washing, dressing), reablement services (regaining independence after illness), social activities and help with household tasks.
All adults are entitled to a free needs assessment to determine eligibility for support and carers can also receive a carer’s assessment.

Children’s Social Care services focus on safeguarding and supporting children, young people and their families.
Services provided include support for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), early help, family support workers, and access to children and family centres.
The Family Connect service brings together Children’s Social Care, information and advice and other support organisations including Warwickshire Police and the NHS to help safeguard children, young people and families.

The Hospital of St Cross, part of University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust delivers hospital care in Rugby.
It has:
- 110 patient beds
- Six operating theatres (including one mobile theatre)
- A highly regarded elective surgery service
- Rehabilitation services
- The Rugby Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC)
- A newly refurbished Blood Taking Unit
- The Maple Unit — a £1 million Haematology and Oncology centre opened in 2021

Work is underway to improve the services at the Hospital of St Cross and so far, this has included introducing:
- Two new modular theatres to expand surgical capacity
- A specialist breast care unit offering surgical and nursing support, reconstruction, physiotherapy and pilates
- A new ultrasound unit enabling 4,000 additional procedures each year
- A dedicated modular Endoscopy unit (opened 2023), delivering 30% more tests and treating up to 50 patients per day
- Improved wayfinding and signage
- A virtual link between the Rugby Urgent Treatment Centre and University Hospital for rapid consultant advice
- Over £4 million invested in energy saving measures such as solar panels, LED lighting and air source heat pumps
In December 2023, the Hospital of St Cross was also accredited as an elective hub for Coventry and Warwickshire, providing faster access to common planned procedures in urology, ophthalmology, trauma and orthopaedics and breast surgery.
This means more local patients can receive procedures such as hip and knee replacements, eye surgery and ENT operations closer to home.
