UPDATES ON GP SERVICES AT WHITESTONE SURGERY
6 March 2026
NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) has announced that Whitestone Surgery in Nuneaton will close on Friday 24th April 2026, following regulatory action and a review of future GP service options.
Why this decision has been made
Changes to services at Whitestone Surgery were first introduced in 2024 after a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection.
To make sure patients continued receiving care, the ICB arranged for a temporary caretaker provider to run services while the CQC’s processes were taking place.
The CQC registration has now been cancelled, meaning the existing GP contract cannot continue.
Since then, the ICB has worked with NHS partners and local GP practices to explore whether services could continue at the site, or from another nearby clinical building. The property owner has also been contacted but was unable to assure that the surgery premises will continue to be available.
Following a detailed assessment, it was concluded that the current premises cannot be secured for long-term clinical use and no suitable alternative accommodation is available locally.
As a result, the difficult decision has been taken to close the GP practice.
What this means for patients
Patients registered at Whitestone Surgery will need to register with another GP practice.
All GP practices locally are currently accepting new patients, and there are eight practices within three miles of Whitestone Surgery, as well as other practices across Nuneaton & Bedworth dependent on patient catchment, accessible by regular bus routes or within a short drive.
Patients are encouraged to register as soon as possible, particularly if they take regular medication, or have ongoing or long-term health conditions.
Once registered, medical records will transfer automatically to the new practice.
If patients do not choose a new GP by 23rd April 2026, they will be automatically registered with a local practice to ensure continued access to care.
Support available
Dedicated staff will be available at Whitestone Surgery between 9th March and 20th March 2026 to help patients complete registration forms and answer questions.
Patients can also register online via the NHS website or the NHS App.
A spokesperson from the ICB said: “We understand this news may be concerning and would like to reassure patients that no one will be left without a GP, and support is available throughout the transition.
“Existing appointments at Whitestone Surgery should still be attended as planned until the closure date.”
