THINK PHARMACY FIRST THIS AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY

The NHS in Coventry and Warwickshire is reminding people of the health services available to them across the August Bank Holiday weekend should they need to access treatment.

Pharmacies can prescribe medication for sinusitis, sore throat, earache, infected insect bite, impetigo, shingles, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women (under the age of 65) without the need for a GP appointment or prescription via the Pharmacy First service. This is in addition to treating a variety of minor illnesses and ailments with self-care advice or sale of an over-the-counter medication, making them an excellent option if you need treatment during the Bank Holiday.

However, many pharmacies will be operating reduced opening hours on Monday 26th August so please check before visiting. You can check your local pharmacy’s opening times here.

It’s also important that you check to make sure you have enough prescription medication to last across the weekend. Using the NHS App is the quickest and easiest way to order repeat prescriptions at a time that is convenient to you. You can also use it to choose which pharmacy you’d like your medication to be sent to, and to track the progress of your order.

If you require medical advice or assistance and it’s not an emergency, you can use the NHS 111 service by visiting 111.nhs.uk or calling 111 to speak to a trained healthcare professional who will guide you on the best course of action.

More information on which services are available in Coventry and Warwickshire and when to use them can be found on our Think Which Service page.
