NHS75 - CELEBRATING 75 YEARS OF THE NHS
6 July 2023
The NHS celebrated its 75th birthday on Wednesday (5th July) and the anniversary was an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the history and achievements of our health service.
From its foundation in 1948, the NHS has been a constant presence throughout most of our lives and now treats over a million people a day. It has made such a difference to countless lives over the three quarters of a century, and this was reflected in the tributes that were paid to it on the day and the number of events that took place across the country.
In Westminster, a service was held at Westminster Abbey which was attended by around 1,500 NHS staff, including 4 from the ICB, as well as senior government and political leaders, health leaders and celebrities. You can read more about the service here (https://www.happyhealthylives.uk/latest-news/four-staff-from-nhs-coventry-warwickshire-icb-attend-special-service-at-westminster-abbey-celebrating-the-nhss-75th-anniversary/.)
Here in Coventry and Warwickshire, we held celebration events at the ICB offices in Coventry and Warwick and staff were invited to share their reflections on what the NHS means to them over tea and cake.
NHS staff, volunteers and local communities are also being encouraged to take part in parkrun and junior parkrun events on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th July with events taking place up and down the country. For more information and to find your local parkrun, visit www.parkrun.org.uk.
Thank you to everyone who have taken and are planning to take part in the celebrations this week.
Happy 75th birthday NHS!
