NHS CANCER BUS TOUR TO BRING LIFE-SAVING SCREENING INFORMATION TO COMMUNITIES ACROSS COVENTRY AND WARWICKSHIRE

The NHS Cancer Bus Tour is coming to Coventry and Warwickshire to make it easier for residents to access life-saving screening information on their doorstep.

The tour begins in May and runs until September this year and will see the bus visit different hotspots across the city as well as towns in the county including Nuneaton, Bedworth, Atherstone, Rugby, Leamington Spa, Stratford-Upon-Avon and Warwick.

Experts from the ICB as well as GPs, Consultants, the Targeted Lung Health check and the Bowel screening teams will be on the bus to encourage people to ‘check it, don’t chance it’ by increasing awareness about the signs and symptoms of cancer and support services in the area.

They will also be encouraging individuals who are worried about a symptom to contact their GP, because finding cancer early makes it more treatable and can save lives.

Dr Hazel Blanchard, Primary Care Clinical Cancer Lead at the NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board, said:

“The subject of cancer can feel scary and overwhelming, so we wanted to create a safe space in local communities for people to connect with healthcare professionals without having to travel very far – which is why the Cancer Bus Tour is taking place.

“Experts will be on-hand to talk residents through the different cancer screening programmes available and share information about how regular screening empowers you to be proactive rather than reactive and can help you take the right steps to avoid something becoming life threatening later down the line.

“They will also be providing information about healthy living and preventive measures such as Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, immunisation and vaccinations to empower people to take control of their health and reduce their cancer risk.”
