IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO GET YOUR NHS FLU VACCINATION
23 January 2026
Eligible Coventry and Warwickshire residents are being reminded that it is still not too late to get their free NHS flu vaccination, and that having the jab can make a real difference in protecting both individuals and communities.
Flu is not just a bad cold. It can be serious, especially for older people, pregnant women, young children, and those with long-term health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, or weakened immune systems.
Each year, flu leads to thousands of hospital admissions and puts extra pressure on NHS services.
Getting vaccinated is the best way to reduce the risk of becoming seriously ill from flu.
Even late in the season, the flu vaccine can still provide important protection, as flu viruses continue to circulate well into the spring.
If you are eligible for a free NHS flu jab and haven’t had it yet, now is the time.
Dr Imogen Staveley, Chief Medical Officer at NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board, said:
“Flu can hit hard and fast, and for some people it can be life-threatening.
“The vaccine is safe, effective, and free for those who are eligible.
“Even if you’ve delayed so far, it’s absolutely not too late to come forward and get protected.”
Who can get a free NHS flu vaccine?
The NHS flu vaccine is free for:
- People aged 65 and over
- Pregnant women
- Children aged 2 and 3, and school-aged children, through the nasal spray programme
- People with long-term health conditions
- Carers and those who live with someone who has a weakened immune system
- Frontline health and social care workers
The vaccine is safe, effective, and free for those who are eligible.
Protect yourself and your loved ones
By getting vaccinated, people are not only protecting themselves but also helping to protect family members, friends, and vulnerable people in the community.
Fewer cases of flu also mean less pressure on GP practices, pharmacies, hospitals, and urgent care services during the busy winter period.
Residents can get their flu vaccine at GP practices, many local pharmacies, and some community clinics.
Appointments are quick, and in some places you can book online or walk in.
