HEALTH AND CARE PARTNERS COME TOGETHER TO SUPPORT SUSTAINABLE HEALTHCARE AND WELLBEING
1 February 2026
On Tuesday 20 January, people from across Coventry and Warwickshire met at Old Shire Hall in Warwick for the Sustainable Healthcare and Wellbeing Showcase.
The event opened with an introduction to why sustainable healthcare matters for local communities in Coventry and Warwickshire. This was followed by a talk about how local health and care services prepare for extreme weather, and the steps they take to keep essential care running so patients stay safe during difficult conditions.
Organisations that took part included the Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) Medicines Optimisation team, Warwickshire Country Parks, and staff from University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust.
The showcase highlighted how sustainable healthcare and wellbeing is already available to people across Coventry and Warwickshire.
Warwickshire Libraries shared a wide range of Reading Agency resources, including recommended book lists for people living with dementia, children and families, teenagers, and people looking for mental health support. They also showcased their local “What’s On” guides, highlighting groups and sessions happening across Warwickshire for both adults and young people, including IT support, Citizens Advice, and careers fairs for ages 14+.
Warwickshire County Parks and Achieving Results in Communities (ARC) both demonstrated how nature-based activities can support physical and mental wellbeing. Warwickshire County Parks shared information on local parks, wildlife protection work, cycle routes, and family-friendly activities such as nature walks and bug hunts. ARC promoted its weekly sessions for people experiencing mental or physical health challenges, loneliness, or recovery, including a free seven-week Woodland Wellbeing Course designed to help people reconnect, build confidence, and improve wellbeing outdoors.
Public Health Warwickshire also provided information on mental health support and signposting, helping residents understand where to access help when they need it. Act on Energy showcased how households can access free, impartial home energy advice and support, helping people stay warm and well while reducing energy costs.
The event also demonstrated how NHS services are taking practical action. University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) shared their sustainability work, including the Green ED programme and award-winning initiatives that have been recognised nationally. The Medicines Optimisation and Primary Care teams also showcased the work underway with GP practices, including a 10-point plan to help make primary care more sustainable while also reducing waste and saving money.
Laura Nelson, Chief Integration Officer and Sustainability SRO at Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board (CWICB), said:
“The showcase has brought together NHS teams, local councils, community groups and voluntary organisations alike. They’ve shared real examples of how they are making health and care more sustainable, improving people’s wellbeing, and reducing waste, and projects that are already making a difference.
“A key outcome of today is improved partnership working, with several organisations making new connections and agreeing to continue conversations after the event - helping ensure that sustainable healthcare is better joined up for residents across Coventry and Warwickshire.”
