COV SAFE SPACE IS BACK THIS FESTIVE PERIOD

Cov Safe Space will be returning to the city centre to help keep people safe during the festive period.

Coventry Public Health, Licensing, Coventry Police, Arley Medical Services, Coventry Business Improvement District (BID) and the Street Pastors have teamed up to bring the Cov Safe Space campaign to the city this winter for the fourth year.

The service starts on 2th December and will be available in the car park at Ikea adjacent to the Skydome car park. It is about partners providing a safe space in the evenings during the run up to Christmas in the heart of the city at one of the busiest times of the year. They will be working together to reach out to students and others who may need a bit of safety and medical support or first aid during a night out.

The safe space has run during the festive period for several years and in September 2019 to support Coventry University Welcome Week for the first time to help keep new students in the city stay safe while enjoying the nightlife.

Cllr Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport at Coventry City Council, said: “I am extremely proud that we are working alongside our partners to once again deliver this much needed support during this busy time of year. It is important that everyone feels safe when out in the city centre and to look out for one another.”

Cov Safe Space will operate from 10pm until 3am every Friday and Saturday night in the run up to Christmas and will provide a range of support services. This will include a first aid service provided by Arley Medical Services. Street Pastors will also be out and about as normal to provide support.

The service will run on the following days at the following hours:

  • Friday 2nd December 2022 (from 10pm- 3am)
  • Saturday 3rd December 2022 (from 10pm – 3am)
  • Friday 9th December 2022 (from 10pm – 3am)
  • Saturday 10th December 2022 (from 10pm – 3am)
  • Friday 16th December 2022 (from 10pm- 3am)
  • Saturday 17th December 2022 (from 10pm – 3am)
  • Friday 23rd December 2022 (from 10pm – 3am)

David Johns, Operations Director of Arley Medical Services, added: “Once again, we are really looking forward to working with our partners in Coventry to provide greater support, in addition to our Coventry Alcohol Response Ambulance (CARA) service.

“Cov Safe Space will ensure that people out enjoying the night time economy have a safe night out in the city by providing assistance if required, therefore reducing the pressures on the NHS at what will be a very busy time of year”.

Coventry City Council will be posting more about the service on their Twitter and Facebook page, using the hashtag #CovSafe.
