UPDATE ON THE SOUTH WARWICKSHIRE COMMUNITY HOSPITAL BED REVIEW
26 July 2023
Coventry and Warwickshire ICB Board has approved the development of a pre-consultation business case on the South Warwickshire Community Hospital Bed Review.
The Community Hospital Bed Review was developed by South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT). The review considers a range of options for the provision of community hospital inpatient services within South Warwickshire.
As part of the review, patient, public and wider stakeholder engagement has taken place to identify the options which have been assessed.
The outcome of the Community Hospital Bed Review proposes:
- An overall increase in the number of community beds
- Improvements and additional community and care at home services
- A change in location of the community beds from the Ellen Badger Hospital to Leamington Spa Hospital.
NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) is required to consider the Community Hospital Bed Review in relation to Coventry and Warwickshire ICB’s strategic direction, the scale of the changes proposed, the wider impacts of these changes, and commissioning and statutory responsibilities.
As such, a pre-consultation business case will now be developed that will allow the ICB to make an informed decision on the issues to be consulted on. Pre consultation seeks to build alignment to make the case for change, demonstrate that all options, benefits, and impacts on service users have been considered and demonstrate that any planned consultation will seek the views of patients, members of the public who may my impacted by the proposals.
