FUNDING TO ADDRESS MENTAL HEALTH INEQUALITIES
11 October 2023
Applications have now closed for the expressions of interest for funding to support the mental health and wellbeing of residents. The Coventry and Warwickshire Mental Health Collaborative (MHC) have secured £1 million funding to address mental health inequalities.
Please note, the governance processes are being followed and applicants will be updated in due course.
The MHC has been established to improve the mental health and wellbeing of children, young people, and adults by working together at scale and at place. One of its core principles is ‘a focus on prevention and reducing inequalities.’
Research has shown that people in the 10% most deprived areas face a much higher risk of mental illness; they are three times more likely to be detained under the Mental Health Act and twice as likely to die by suicide. The lives of people diagnosed with a severe mental illness are, on average, 20 years shorter than those without. The funding aims to support work to reduce these mental health inequalities and improve health outcomes.
