COVENTRY & WARWICKSHIRE HEALTH PROFESSIONALS CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY AND INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE MIDWIFE

Hundreds of past, present and future nurses, midwives and nursing associates from across Coventry and Warwickshire marched through Coventry city centre to celebrate International Nurses’ Day and International Day of the Midwife on May 12th.

The people of Coventry and Warwickshire were given the opportunity to thank nurses, nursing associates and midwives from Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust, NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board (ICB), South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust and student nurses, nursing associates and midwives from Coventry University, for their work as they paraded from Broadgate to Coventry Cathedral.

The procession began at Coventry Cathedral and went around the city centre with representatives from the local nursing, midwifery and nursing associate workforce giving speeches at the ceremony. The celebration had a fantastic response from the community with people showing their appreciation for the hard-work and dedication of our local nursing staff.

The theme of this International Nurse’s Day was“Our Nurses. Our Future.” The ICB and Coventry University Group are currently working together with the aim of recruiting 1,000 adult nurses from the local area over the next five years.

Jamie Soden, Deputy Director of Nursing and Clinical Transformation at Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board, said:

“We are extremely proud to co-present and compere this amazing event. This year’s theme for International Nurses Day is ‘our nurses, our future’ which provides us with an opportunity to reflect on our colleagues hard work in the past and their continued efforts in giving great care. It is also a time to look forward and think about how we can learn from our experiences and find new ways to work and support our newly qualified nurses at the start of their career journey.”

Mandy Braimbridge, Deputy Chief Nurse at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, added:

“This celebration has always been an important one for us to acknowledge the incredible work nurses, nursing associates and midwives across the region do for our local community. I am proud of what we have achieved with this event and how it continues to grow.

We started this tradition seven years ago to give our dedicated, hard-working past, present and future local nurses, nursing associates and midwives the time to come together, share stories and reflect on the positive impact they have on the local community as professionals.

We are passionate about nursing and everything it stands for.”
