COVENTRY RESIDENTS RECEIVE FREE HEALTH CHECKS FOR TYPE 2 DIABETES
25 July 2024
A Coventry health van has tested around 90 people to check their risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Earlier this week, a local mobile testing van parked up in Coventry to offer locals free diabetes checks. The testing van was on its last stop following an NHS England led tour across the country. Local people were invited to come forward for the free checks and encouraged to learn more about diabetes.
On the day, people were provided with information to help self-management and signposted to local support services.
Peter Shorrick, Head of Midlands and East at Diabetes UK said: “It was great to see so many people attend the Coventry Health Bus, with 90 people getting tested on the day. I am pleased that we had this opportunity to raise awareness and encourage people to know their risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
“We were able to signpost people to key local support services such as Talking Therapies, Remission, Desmond and local prevention programmes. The ICB were incredibly well organised in supporting the day. It was fantastic to see the great collaborative work between the ICB, NHSE, Diabetes UK and Abbott to deliver key messages about diabetes, and the importance of identifying those at risk. All in all, it was an excellent day with successful positive outcomes.”
