COVENTRY AND WARWICKSHIRE ICS SHORTLISTED FOR TWO PRESTIGIOUS HSJ AWARDS

Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care System (ICS) is delighted to announce that the West Midlands Trauma Vanguard Project has been shortlisted for two prestigious HSJ Awards: Patient Safety Pilot Project of the Year and Improving Care for Children and Young People Initiative of the Year.

The Trauma Informed Vanguard: Positive Directions team has been recognised for their innovative work in developing new approaches to support the health and wellbeing of children and young people in our communities. These nominations reflect the significant progress we’ve made in improving health outcomes for young people across Coventry and Warwickshire.

The recognition celebrates projects that have demonstrated real potential in enhancing patient safety and delivering meaningful, positive change. Specifically, the team’s groundbreaking work focuses on embedding trauma-informed care principles into various local voluntary and statutory services, aiming to create a more supportive and understanding environment for children and young people. By addressing the impact of trauma on an individual's health, this initiative strives to enhance the experience for children and young people accessing community services, improving engagement, ultimately leading to better outcomes and overall well-being for the children, young people and their families.

Lyn Ranson, Clinical Consultant Lead West Midlands Trauma Vanguard at NHS Coventry and Warwickshire ICB, said:

“Being recognised by the HSJ Patient Safety judges in two categories has given external recognition to our project, and the continued drive to share the learning from our Vanguard test and learn sites.  In challenging market conditions, future commissioning investment is often determined by differentiators when making such decisions. Being a finalist for a HSJ award, the ‘Oscars of the NHS’, recognises the local, regional, and national impact of the learning from our project. These nominations are more than a trophy on a shelf.  Our pilot project has improved the lives and the outcomes of some of our most disadvantaged young people and families who have experienced trauma.

“For us, being a finalist with the best of the best nationally from across the NHS and Social Care at the 2025 HSJ Safety Awards is humbling for myself, the ICB Vanguard Team and our partners at Coventry City Council, and our commissioners from NHS England are so proud of the recognition of our project.”
