COUNCIL PARTNER AND COMMUNITY GROUPS COME TOGETHER TO HELP THE VULNERABLE COPE WITH COVID-19

People and groups are working closely with our partner Warwickshire County Council to help communities cope with the Covid-19 crisis.

The collective efforts of the public, voluntary and community sector with planning support from the military are helping the county’s most vulnerable residents.

So far over 5,000 food parcels and essential packs have been delivered to vulnerable and isolated people who have no means of shopping for themselves.

Since opening six weeks ago, hotline operators have spoken to around 6,500 vulnerable people linking them with emotional, financial and practical support they need.

A partnership between the Local Pharmacy Committee, Warwickshire County Council and voluntary organisations continues to help residents to access medical supplies while they are in isolation.

A network has been established using local volunteer community transport schemes to collect prescriptions from pharmacies and deliver medication to people across the county.

Throughout the pandemic the county’s fire service has continued to assist the NHS by providing a ‘Hospital to Home’ transport service.

In the past six weeks, firefighters have taken 160 vulnerable residents home after time spent in hospital.

On arrival firefighters check people have working smoke alarms and the essentials they need such as food and medication. The service supports our partners South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

Anyone isolated and living in Warwickshire without support can call Warwickshire’s hotline for vulnerable people on 0800 408 1447 or visit www.warwickshire.gov.uk/coronavirus
