Brownies mark Year of Wellbeing at Coundon care home

Brownies marking the Year of Wellbeing

Coundon Manor care home residents got together with local Brownies this week, to mark Coventry and Warwickshire Year of Wellbeing.

The 21st Coventry South pack visited the home for a craft session designed to mix up the generations.

Old and young alike had great fun cutting, drawing and sticking, but the day had a more serious purpose, as pack leader Jackie Kemp explained: “The staff and residents were all lovely and helpful, and it was truly rewarding to see the time they spent together, and the craft work they produced. I’m sure we will be back again!

"The Brownies have the chance to study for their Dementia Challenge badges. This visit gave them a chance to learn more about dementia and to understand, for example, that not all older people have the disease, and that many people live well with dementia.”

The Year of Wellbeing, running throughout 2019, is a chance to celebrate the great things that everyone can do to improve their wellbeing and the wellbeing of people around them.

Explained Director of Public Health and Wellbeing for Coventry, Liz Gaulton: “It is great to see the children meeting older people like this. They will remember this encounter for the rest of their lives, and they will have learned more about dementia, too.”

The Brownies will also be part of Year of Wellbeing activity across Coventry and Warwickshire to mark Dementia Awareness Week, in May.
