VOLUNTEER DRIVERS CRANK UP SUPPORT FOR OUR NHS PARTNER DURING COVID CRISIS

A brilliant band of volunteers has been thanked for supporting vulnerable Warwickshire communities during the COVID-19 crisis.

The Warwickshire 4x4 Volunteers Group has always provided crucial support to our NHS partner South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust in helping healthcare staff get to hospitals and clinics during heavy winter snowfall and flooding.

Previously, their 120 drivers have also helped transport nurses to patients’ homes to ensure local people received the treatment they needed.

Now, during the COVID-19 crisis, the group is continuing to step up.

Since March, the group’s members have completed 160 tasks such as collecting and distributing PPE, distributing various items of medical equipment and transporting staff and patients where clinics have been relocated.

Chief Executive of the South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust Glen Burley said: “I would like to personally offer my sincere thanks to all of the 4x4 Volunteers Group.

"Their dedication to support the Trust, regardless of the circumstances, is phenomenal.

"We are extremely lucky with all of the amazing volunteers we have in Warwickshire, and this is a particular service that has continued to help us deliver care to the people who need it.”

Graeme Wright, lead volunteer coordinator of the group, said: “I am constantly overwhelmed by the generosity and dedication of the members towards our local NHS.

"On receipt of a request, we have within minutes, sometimes even seconds, numerous volunteers stepping up to carry out the job; regardless of time of day or night or distance.

“They truly are a remarkable group of people.”
