The two options being considered
There are two potential options that are being consulted on to ensure these beds remain accessible, effective and sustainable. These options have been developed with input from members of the public, patients, and stakeholders to ensure they reflect the priorities and needs of our communities. They have been informed using data and evidence-based process, and with the impact on our staff and our finances in mind.
The options are:
- Option A – Three sites: Distribute all 35 beds across three sites: Ellen Badger Hospital, Leamington Spa Hospital, and Stratford Hospital.
This would reduce the number of beds currently at Stratford Hospital and Leamington Spa Hospital and return up to 12 beds to the Ellen Badger site. - Option B – Two sites: Provide all 35 beds at two sites, Leamington Spa Hospital and Stratford Hospital.
The wards would remain the same current size at Leamington Spa Hospital and Stratford Hospital and there would no longer be any beds at the Ellen Badger site.
Our preferred option
After reviewing our final the options, Coventry and Warwickshire ICB and South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust prefer Option B. This is because we believe it provides high-quality care while being affordable, focuses on the places with the most patients needing rehabilitation, and supports how our staff currently work across South Warwickshire.
However, this does not mean that we have made a decision. Our other option, Option A, is still viable. We will carefully consider all the information we receive from you as part of this public consultation and compare it to what we already know about both options.
