Public and patient engagement in developing proposals
Review of Services
The SWFT team looked at how the 35 rehabilitation beds at Ellen Badger and Stratford hospitals were being used. They wanted to improve services, make sure patients get the best care, and use resources wisely. They spoke to patients, families, staff, and local groups to hear their thoughts
Healthwatch Warwickshire surveys
Healthwatch Warwickshire ran a survey about these services. They heard from over 500 people, and the feedback received was largely positive. It is clear that community beds are a highly valued service. Some people told us that they felt it was an appropriate way to move between an acute stay in hospital and returning home. Others told us how they valued being close to home and family and friends so that they could visit, as well as the benefits of the smaller nature of community hospitals as opposed to larger hospitals which can be hard to navigate your way around. This feedback helped shape the plans
Community Panel
In December 2021, a group of patients, carers, and community members looked at early ideas for the plans. They chose what they thought was most important to them and helped narrow down the options.
Talking to patients
In 2021, patients staying at Ellen Badger and Stratford hospitals were interviewed. They shared their experiences, which gave helpful ideas for the proposals.
Feedback from local groups
Groups like “Beds 4 Badger” and Shipston Town Council gave detailed feedback. Their ideas helped improve the plans even more and guided us as to what information people in South Warwickshire would need to make a decision
Experts and clinicians
Throughout the process, doctors and health experts reviewed the options to make sure they were safe for patients, could be staffed properly, fit the budget, and matched the NHS’s goals. In 2024, they looked at new ideas based on feedback from the public.
We worked with patients, families, and local groups to help decide the best plans for community hospital rehabilitation beds in South Warwickshire. By listening to their experiences and ideas, we made sure the plans focus on what people really need. The process for developing proposals, including how patients and the public were involved.
