Patient vaccinations

How are patients invited for a vaccination?

When it is the right time, people will receive an invitation to come forward. This may be a letter or text message from either their GP or the national booking system, which will include the information they need to book their appointments.

Patients can choose to book their vaccination appointments at a larger vaccination centre or pharmacy, or they can wait to be invited by their GP to go to a local NHS service.

How do GPs know who to vaccinate?

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) set criteria on an ongoing basis for who should get the vaccine when. GPs will be able to use their patient records to determine who is eligible to invite for a vaccination.
