Patient vaccinations

How are patients invited for a vaccination?

When it is the right time people will receive an invitation to come forward. For most people at the current time, this is a telephone call from their GP practice. For some it will be in the form of a letter either from their GP or the national booking system; this will include all the information they need to book their appointments, including their NHS number.

We understand a lot of people want to be vaccinated and would like to reassure you this will happen. Please be patient and wait to be contacted. We are asking people not to contact the NHS to get an appointment until they get their letter. For further information on why you are being asked to wait for your Covid-19 vaccine, please read the information on the GOV.UK website.

How do GPs know who to vaccinate?

The JCVI set criteria on an ongoing basis for who should get the vaccine when. GPs will be able to call in or go out to patients based on this, using their patient records. A national invite and recall system, drawn from GP patient records, may also be used.
